three days ago espn mailed a duplicate copy of its latest edition complete with small pieces of paper on each advertisement throughout the magazine. it wanted its readers to fill out a mega-survey, and for the mere effort & time it took some poor intern to organize, i felt obligated to complete its survey. upon opening the first page, immediately greeting me amongst the bmw advertisement laid a five dollar bill. not a check, but a crisp green five dollar bill. now, you may not consider it much, but for a twenty-something chick trying to make it in this world, thats dinner at wendys.
the next day, i played super mom by taking my four-year-old twin terror of cousins and six-year-old gestapo of a cousin to the knights stadium. as i attempted to point out my sister in the press box from our home plate seats to little natalie, i realized the impossiblility of this task. ergo similiar to picking a needle out of a haystack, i quickly lost patience hoping some random young woman would wave at the desperate child allowing me to watch the game. seconds later, amazingly enough like a miracle- her face lit up as she grinned from ear to ear- she had perfectly strung the needle.
after these simple phenomenons, i couldnt help but wonder- how many times do we overlook the little things? the random phonecalls, the happy birthday wishes on that special day, our favorite song making the number one spot. coupons in the mail, free movie tickets, compliments on a new outfit. a pat on the back, a welcoming hug, a hand held tight. from five dollar bills and simple acknowledgements to the genius of india.aire, "simple as a phonecall or as a kiss on the cheek... dont forget about the little things." maybe if we realized how many little things existed in this world, we would learn to appreciate ourselves, our friends and our world just a little bit better than before.
may they bring you joy.

spontaneity takes over
chances are, i wont be very good at this blogging phenomenon. however, i know the thrills that come with my starting a new project to entertain the multitudes of desperate websurfers, so i figured id give it a shot perchance to ease my boredom from the cyclops of a television. nothing like moving from one medium of multimedia to another slightly more advanced. so this is me- attempting to expand my horizons from critical analysis of the media with mere hope that i can shed some light and expressively reflect on the world around me. if that doesnt work, at least i pray i entertain you. ergo, welcome to my first official blog (and what could quite possibly be my last if i forget about it or lose inspiration.)
about two days ago, i attempted (notice how many attempts ive made recently) to start my own webpage. i logged on to our universitys website to learn the essentials- one hour later i was so confused i was ready to write a complaint letter to my university rather than start my own webpage. note to anyone more technologically blessed than myself: if we cant understand your lingo when youre speaking to us, what makes you think we can understand it written down without further explanation? yes, i realize im a bright student with full capability to follow directions but when my directions involve more constants than vowels, im just not exactly sure what im supposed to do. so instead of a webpage (which currently is posted on my desktop and not the world wide web like i was told it would be) i gave into the creepy, private-free world of blogging. i promise not to use this online "diary" as a chance to stand on a soapbox that would bore you enough to make you want to poke your eyes out for sheer entertainment. but perchance i get carried away, i hear theres some nifty way you can comment and tell me so. (and maybe, ill be nice and listen).
because im a woman of advice, id hate to leave you without. last night, i "planned" (although i hate that word because it makes me feel like im a nazi) an outing with two of my girlfriends, involving free entertainment, nascar and fair food. yes, you read all of that correctly. spontaneity took over as several old friends met us there. as i was standing in an open parking lot downtown staring at the panthers stadium beyond me with boyz II men sernading thousands before me and old high school friends with arms wrapped around me, i couldnt help but wonder- what is it that draws us back to our past no matter how far into our present we drill?
it became one of those notable nostalgic, bittersweet romances that once again proves no matter how much of our being we try to perfect, some things are perfect in themseleves.
